The Fermilab Records Management Program effectively manages the creation, maintenance, use, and disposition of records. The Records Management Office maintains a site-wide listing of records types by division and section, implements the federal retention guidelines for maintenance and authorized destruction of records according to the DOE and GRS Records retention schedules, develops site specific retention schedules for records unique to our facility, responds to DOE inquiries, and participates in DOE work groups addressing records issues at the national laboratories.
In addition to ongoing assistance to many departments regarding records questions, this office is responsible for the creation and maintenance of a records training program through use of the Fermilab Records Management Handbook and quarterly bulletins to the field.
The Records Management office assists with proper storage of Fermilab and SSC Laboratory inactive records at an approved off-site facility and the identification of Vital Records for implementation of a disaster recovery or emergency operating plan.
